Powering Heavy Construction with Navy CUBE in Cheung Sha Wan
Deployment Date: September 1, 2025 Project Location: Cheung Sha Wan, Hong Kong
Gammon Construction Limited, one of Hong Kong’s leading construction firms, are facing a common but critical constraint at their Cheung Sha Wan construction site: insufficient grid capacity to power heavy construction equipment.
Tower cranes and construction hoists represent some of the industry’s most power-intensive operations, requiring consistent, high-output energy that exceeded the available grid supply at this location. Traditional solutions would typically involve diesel generators, introducing emissions, noise pollution, and operational complexity to an already demanding construction environment.
Leyden Power partnered with Gammon and deployed a 400kW/633kWh NAVY CUBE Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the site. Our NAVY CUBE’s dual input port technology provided the breakthrough solution by connecting to two separate grid sources simultaneously and amplifies their power output to deliver the required capacity.
This innovative approach:
Maximizes existing infrastructure – leverages available grid connections without requiring costly upgrades
Powers critical equipment – delivers consistent energy for tower cranes and hoists throughout operations
Eliminates diesel dependency – removes the need for backup generators and associated fuel logistics
Achieves zero emissions – completely eliminates operational emissions at the point of use
Reduces noise pollution – creates quieter, more manageable job site conditions
The success of this installation with Gammon Construction reinforces the viability of BESS technology for heavy construction applications and positions clean energy storage as a practical alternative to diesel-dependent operations.
